The term SOFT CORDER:

Was noted on the Groundspeak Forums a couple of days ago. It was used in relationship to a new cacher in the Buffalo, N.Y. area to denote an individual who has a penchant for offsetting caches from the posted co-ords.

I rather like the term.

Cacher:

The White Urkel, with tongue in cheek, has given me permission to use the term. LOL, LOL, LOL

"The White Urkel" we hope to dunk in a water tank someday? I just want to make sure I was thinking about the same suspect(s).

Seriously, the real TWU. He is a stickler for good co-ords. apparently has engaged in remediation and education of the Soft Corders in his area.

A number of threada on the GS Forums regarding soft co-ords. The practice is at variance with the guidelines.

I can think of a few other names for people like that, but they're not appropriate in a public forum.

Shouldn't the term be "soft coorder"? I know that some people write "cords" instead of "coords", but I don't think we should encourage that.

Can't speak to corder vs coorder.

Not my term to fuss with.

TWU was kind enough to allow me useage of the term as it stood ( single o ) >>> and without royalties. LOL, LOL

I just found the Correct Coordinates thread on the Groundspeak Forums, and it turns out that TheWhiteUrkel did spell it "soft coorder" (and later "soft-coorder").

Anyway, it's sad that some cache hiders still think that deliberately using incorrect coordinates is a good thing to do: Log by owner of Skurdibbles!   I wish they understood that the inherent inaccuracy of GPSrs combined with the imprecision of the DD MM.MMM format makes the search area big enough, without artificially increasing it.

In western North Carolina they refer to a 30' radius as "the OzGuff Zone."

Amazing what comes up on Google, isn't it? No, my detractors are never going to see me dunked in a dunk tank. That would require me to voluntarily submit to sitting there, correct? I prefer a pie in the face, actually. Or my personal favorite, even though this is me we're talking about, is have someone sneak up behind the victim and get down on all fours, and then the person talking to the victim pushes them over. Hilarity will almost always ensue.

I'm not sure you have any significant detractors here. I think CMNM did not know of you, and thought HF was referring to another member here.

In any case, thanks for stopping by here!

It would seem to me that I have no idea which variation might be the most correct.

Now that TWU has joined us perhaps we will attain a perspective from the east. Soooooooo, how are things " In The Buff ".

Now that I have back read the logs, dbirdman was right on. Sorry, TWU if I was offensive. I was referring to one or two members of this forum that we give a hard time to about soft-coords. They know who they are...the dear fellas. They have sent more than a few of us to the looney bin! banghead

TWU, here is a LCCF thread to bring you up to speed about this....

Sorry for the confusion! I did check back for new posts, but I did it through Google every time, and it just showed my post as the last one.

The reason I came here, is someone had the bright idea that in their find log for the cache "skurdibbles", they would mention that a couple of message board threads come up when you Google this unique, made-up word. Of course both these threads are negative regarding soft coordinates. The cache owner (who never would have done this in a million years if it wasn't for that find log) Googled skurdibbles, entered the Geocaching.com forum thread, and went bonkers.

That find log has since been edited, seeing as I went bonkers about that. I took care to never give any clues so this cache could be identified by name in the Groundspeak forums.

Now everyone is probably even more confused!!

No worries about the confusion there, TWU. Were're used to being confused. It a way of life around here....with some more than others (which includes me).
