Approximately how long is the trail?! Now that would be the place to rack up the numbers and see some country....But i'm not in it for the numbers. wink

They are along a road just north of I-15. At least one portion of the road is called Powerline Road. Somebody is probably out getting the world's record for FTFs today. The caches were published within the past few days, some of them today. I've only checked a few, but it appears that they all belong to NVA.
Here is one of them to get you started. driving

It is roughly 50 miles on I-15 from Baker to the border, so 500 caches would be on the 0.1 mile minimum spacing.

Rte 66 only follows I-15 until it gets to Barstow, then I-40 eastward.

From the west end cache 1 appears to be " YUKI ONNA " GC24RGE caches are on opposing sides of the roadway / " goat trail " . Admonition for high clearance vehicle and 4 wheel drive coupled with keep an eye on your fuel. Then the usual admonition for desert critters and plants. ( snakes and cacti )

Asaxist, bubblesintheam, and ... are rumored to be heading to Death Valley one access to this "trail" is the southern access to Death Valley but I do not think Hunter would fare well. Hunter is Asaxist's low, low, low, low slung Dodge pick-'em up truck.

I'll actually be passing by that road on my trip to Oregon. I accidently stumbled upon it while I was loading caches for my trip. I should stay out in Tecopa with my grandma while I snag em all.

It looks like more are being added every day. With the new Pocket Query results being raised from 500 to 1000, I wonder if this power trail will reach the 1,000 mark.

60 cache series.

O.K. The Powerline might be a bit out of reach for some. I understand that some of you might be inclined to do the Groundspeak Maze when it comes to Redding. Further, I have heard rumors that some cachers on the LCCF are into numbers!!!! Just north of Redding there is a 60 cache series beginning with GC247WN. A blend of fun things some Goober types and a sweetj or two thrown in, some short hikes and toward the end a few gut buster hikes.

I went out this A.M. and did 1 - 21 between 0745 and 1100.

They must be aliens! Who else would schedule an event at 5:00 AM? Clearly it's part of their evil plan to attack us when we're too tired to resist.

Citizens of Earth, rise up and resist the invasion: Don't go to this event!

Departure for the Trail Of The Gods ( power trail ) is from Redding on Wednesday A.M. ~ 1145 Psychopedics and I will be burning Rubber along I 5, crossing over on 58 to Bakersfield, then jumping the ridge toward Barstow and beyond toward Primm, Nevada. We anticipate hitting the trail early Thurs. A.M.

Have been reading some of the posts, one group from San Diego did 460ish over a 23 hour period.

Big Bear from the Redding area is currently there churning the dust up in Big Bear fashion.

Hi all, back in from The Trail Of The Gods and had quite the caching adventure. Met some Power Cachers, some regular folks just out having a great time. Saw a couple of families out having an absolute blast in a Geo-Jeep optimized for high speed caching.

Monster tires, suspension system to die for with extended height and travel capabilities and NO doors in order to facilitate accelerated ingress and egress from the vehicle.

Then I saw WAAAAAAAYYYY too many containers which are already a maintenance nightmare ( eclipse gum containers ) TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE many logs already trashed because the inward rolled lip makes it difficult to remove the log sheet. Having a pair of needle nosed pliers helped, however, soooooo many logs were so badly damaged that the containers contained " chaff "

I have learned to appreciate some stamps and some stickers, however, not all are created equally, stickers with marginal adhesives are problematic. Further, it seems that some power cachers live in an alternate world with respect to logging. Some power cachers slapped their stickers onto the containers and moved on others just got a corner of the log sheet out and called it good enough. Helter / Skelter would be an appropriate description.

Glad I went, had some very long tiring days. Only managed slightly above 300 caches for the experience. Did not get them all nor was it our intent. Sampled each trail, worked both ends of the main trail, completed the White House / Presidents Trail. Yeeeeessssss, I might like to go and finish the entire series.

Yesss Enbay got two for you ... one at the front end of the main trail and one at the back end. Did not log you in but mentioned your name to Ku and Yuki Onna.

Did portions of this awesome trail system Apr. 1 & 2. Day one we captured 97 caches ( our day began in Barstow, Calif. rather a bit of a drive from the trail ). day two saw us do 177. The travel days on either end saw us complete the Whitehouse / Presidential series and others. Total for the event was a tad over 300. A more detailed report will be made if there are interested parties.

No, they were banned last April and the cache was published in November. But Groundspeak distinguishes between caches with ALRs and "challenge caches", and the latter are still allowed.

To qualify as a challenge cache, the logging requirement must be cache related. So "find 25 caches whose names include the word 'apple'" is probably OK, but "post a picture of yourself hanging upside-down from an apple tree" is not. I'm sure there are borderline cases, and it's probably left up to the cache reviewer to decide what qualifies.

More speculation in the forums.
Quote:
Homeland security is probably watching the area. It's a major corridor for the import of power for California. Three DC power lines into the LA basin provide much of the power to the area. It's one of a list of likely targets that are the goverment's watchlist.

Since 2001, survelliance methods have become more sophisticated, it's likely overflights in the area have picked up unusual activity. You wouldn't notice them as they fly 20,000 feet or higher and rely on advanced optic and infrared sensors to monitor the area.

Wikipedia actually has a page on the line, which is called Path 27, or the Intermountain DC power transmission corridor.

Hide chapper here,
I opened a new thread last night where I posed the possibility where TOTG veterans could post their stories and photos. A repository of positives. I also threw out the possibility of an instantly identifiable shirt which could serve to warn the public at large that the wearer had an affliction and might be contagious. A moderator out of Pennsylvania killed the thread before two hours had elapsed. Could it be that they wish for the TOTG debacle to roll to the bottom and disappear? My Bad, My bad I go to corner and repent.

When Jeremy dropped by for coffee this morning he said, "When is HF going to get the message? We've tried closing his threads, not approving his caches, removing his ALRs, not publishing his CITO events...geez."

Oh my, here it is early thirty in the A.M. and I have just finished logging the first half of my caches from the Power Trail a little more than 150 left to log.
Wishing all LCCF members a great and glorious caching day and NO DNF's

Still logging from TOTG. I notice some folks still out working the trail. Although archived the archived cache containers remain in place. Cache containers are slated to be picked up 04/23/10. Hats off to those out in the Mojave doing their own thing by taking advantage of a narrow window of opportunity. KUDOS

Well, is 695 going to be the final one-day record? Here is a log from ZSteve at the cache Martin Van Buren:
Quote:
Legoboyjj, Rain or Shine, and I hit the trail today to tackle this series. We had an absolute blast exploring the area and finding these caches. Even though we were running most of the day, I still took time to enjoy the views, look closer at the variety of blooming plants, and see the desert in a way that I’ve never had the opportunity to before. All of that plus the fact that we found 695 caches today make this a caching adventure that I’ll never forget. A huge thanks to the owner of these caches for placing them – It’s sad to see them get archived.

That is a big WOW ... I have just now finished logging my 302nd. physical cache from my journey. Two virtuals to be logged once in possession of the photos. which are living in the camera and iPhone of Psychopedics. My final tally will be a paltry 304. Psychopedics had 306 ( I had visited two caches on prior dates )

The group who got 695 has lamented that had they realized they were sooooo close to 700 they would not have stopped early.

Tip of the hat to that group. Major and serious grunt involved. Caches sceduled to be picked up 04/23/10 sooooooo record could still fall.

From the GW8 forum:
Quote:
On or about June 19, a new powertrail of 1051 caches along the Extraterrestrial Highway in Nevada will open. Expect the record to exceed 1000 by the time GW8 rolls around.

I am considering going ... no particular agenda record wise. But I do want to get the series whose placement is to resemble someone's vision of an alien. I will not make it for the kick off M&G on the 19th. but before or after the heat would be nice.

Have you met nymphnsatyr? They are a very nice couple! Let them know MuggleN0More said "HI!" I meet them at http://coord.info/GC1KACV Northbound Moss Covered 3-Handled Family Grudunza! We stood in the rain after finding the bugger and discovered trackables/coins. We got fairly wet but had a grand time!

Nymphnsatyr wizzed past us on I-5 as we were traveling to GW8. They saw our sticker on our car and we got a nice email from them but never saw them at any of the activities. Their car is definately unique. My guess is Patsu and HF will have 732 caches to log after the trip! Any other guesses? Good luck.

It looks like a few got archived, according to this post. The power trail owners (Clay and Gus) received this email from Groundspeak:

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
