I have been asked to coordinate a caching contest at the SET (Science , Engineering, & Technology) Expo at Redwood Acres on Saturday April 24th. This is a 4-H sponsored event, SET Expo. The promoters envision a contest between school/clubs conducted completely on the fairgrounds and last about an hour. This is a great opportunity for us to promote our hobby to students and families in our community I am looking for two things:
1. 2-3 interested cachers to help plan and implement this activity on the event day.
2. Ideas on how we might set this up.
3. any other suggestions that will help make this successful.

Unavailable for the event day, however, would be willing to sit with the " brain trust " to evolve a plan.

I think something along those great dune hides. " Draw You A Map " and " Shifting Sands " might be excellent cap stone features after some basic caches.

2 Goober caches.
2 TFJ type caches.
2 Humspuds
2 From the dunes ref. above definitely include waypoint projection ( " Sands " )
1 Sweetj Misery Whip. ( to humble the overachievers )

As fond as I am of those two caches, I don't think they can be found in an hour, without leaving the fairgrounds.

Given that the O.P. stated must be entirely on the fairgrounds and exercise conclusion within one hour. The intent of my post was to emulate the caches denoted above. My apologies for initial commentary which apparently lacked clarity.

I agree that a "draw you a map" type puzzle would be a bit difficult for for new players and the time constraints (btw the 1 hour time is somewhat flexible and not completely written in stone.), but I like the idea of several types of caches. One problem I am having is they want a team type competition but how do you set that up so that one team does not muggle another team while finding the cache. I suppose each team could have their own set of caches but then that would be a lot more work and many many more available hiding spots with each set being roughly the same to make it even. I am not sure how many teams there will be and I may not know until just prior to the event so it would be difficult to set it up that way anyway.
Thanks for your ieads and suggestions please keep them coming!
