This is one of the units I am looking at for SBMS Roadrunners Afterhours so any thoughts on the unit such as ease of use with middle schoolers would be great.

In my not so humble opinion this unit remains top tier and is an excellent unit. It may, however, be a little on the pricey side for the young un's. Given that there are a number of folks selling re-built units. I know of two re-built units in Hum. Co. which are running fine with zero headaches

hmm so many possibilities and so many caches, at some point I will have to make a decision. I thought I might let the kids decide..... then remembered they are middle schoolers and that would be impossible!

I have found that the screen on my 60csx is highly resilient to scratches. I have used my old Etrex Vista till about 160 cache finds and did not have much luck in the Redwoods.

Basically I would recomend a Map60csx unit to anybody, as its easy to get around in and works well in deep canyons and heavy tree cover.

As far as a cheaper unit for the kiddies... I would find most sensitive chip for the least ammount of dollars, afterall- You want the thing to work when you need it to. There are other model csx's that are a wee bit less expensive that a Map60, but should perform similar

I really enjoy using this unit. I dont have one of my own, but it is often used when we go out in group. When on a caching trip to ave. of giants we were dead on with this unit under heavy tree cover, while my sister-in-law's boyfriend was about 60 ft. away and heading in the opposite direction using his unit of uknown make and model(it looks like an old Nokia phone).

I bought my GPSMap60CSx after caching with a Garmin Legend for two months. What I have found over the last two plus years with this thing is that I find it more to be an extension of my seeking senses. I have had VERY good service out of it but even better, after two weeks in my hands, I began to have an issue with the power switch and from time to time I could not turn it on or off with any reliability. Top that off with my sitting on it, face & buttons down, as I was lifting myself up onto a bunker on Angel Island pretty much messed up the 60. Well, a call to Garmin tech support explaining that I would like to get a replacement button membrane and see about getting the power button problem fixed, I found myself with a new replacement unit direct from Garmin less than a week after sending it in!

They didn't care that I had damaged the exterior or that I was admitting that the aesthetic damage was done by me, they decided that the power switch was a flaw in manufacture and replaced the whole thing gratis!

Now with customer support like that, I really doubt that I will ever consider another brand of GPS. Sure, maybe a newer model if/when this one dies, but for me, I'm sticking with Garmin.

Same here Dave,

Although for the first two years, I pretty much kept my 60 wrapped up in the protective case - For as old as it is, this one is in pretty good shape in spite of being dropped a couple of times and tossed about in my pack.

How are things in Ukiah?? Long time no cache with!

Jim..

I have over 800 caches logged into my Garmin 60CSx and I would like to delete all of them. How do I do that quickly? Right now I'm having to select each one and delete it manally. Haven't figured out how to mass delete. Anybody know how?
