First i hope this is the right spot if not feel free to relocate. The other day my gps just stoped working all the sudden and i thought it was the batteries so i got new ones and today it did the same thing it died a few seconds after i turned it on. i turned it back on and it did the same thing, this happened about 3-4 times so i pulled out the batteries and put in old ones. then it died because they really were dead so i put the new ones back in and it worked perfect. has this ever happened to anyone before?

I've heard of batteries coming loose in the battery compartment and shutting down the GPSr. I've had my Vista for four years and have not had the problem.

On the gc.com forums some suggest updating the firmware at this Garmin site.

Yes to loose batteries ... I have experienced this a few times on different units. In my circumstance ... I just tug the spring portion to get more tension, also I run an eraser along all contact points to buff them up to eliminate the tarnish variable. YOUR CIRCUMSTANCE may not fit my actions.

I've also read that not all AA batteries are exactly the same size, especially the rechargeables, and this might contribute to loose conditions.

I was looking at a refurbished Etrex venture HC. As a past owner, is this a suggested product or show I look at other options? I am just not sure after reading the posts here.
