You can read about it here. I understand that it comes with 250,000 preloaded caches, has only three buttons, and retails for around $69.00. Next month they will have an update kit for around $25.00 to allow updating caches. It only supports "traditional" caches, therefore no puzzle or multi caches.
I question how many people will get a unit and then go out to find caches without ever visiting the geocaching.com website to find out what geocaching is all about, or learn about the rules of the road.
However, it is probably a good alternative for a child who always wants to hold his father's $500 GPSr.
Well, I took delivery last week, it is rather amazing to imagine that there are 250,000 caches held in it's data bank. The accuracy is excellent, durability seems O.K. ( did the ooops, dropsy thing a few times ). I found it to be rather convenient when out for a cruise and felt the need to grab a spontaneous cache. For those folks who have their units loaded with P.Q's for hundreds of miles around this is of little to no value. It is of great value to put in the hands of a youngster while you hold onto your mega dollar unit. Those who have youngish caching buddies may understand that statement >>>> ( oooops, it fell daddy ) In anticipation of the up-date kit to maintain currency of the data base.
No scam. It was at the Garmin booth at the Outdoor Recreation Trade Show in Salt Lake City. It's the world's largest outdoor recreation trade show with over 23,000 attendees. It's held twice each year. The winter show is scheduled for January 21-24, 2010. Trade shows are always great places to pick up free swag.

Geomate Jr. earns it's salt on the Asaxist DeLorme cache run. Sooooooo here we were at the end of a wrong turn with that inevitable cachers chagrin. We had just dropped out of the mountains into Cedarville, Calif. Asaxist says Ooooops let's go back. I sais not so hasty lets see if there is something out here, Sue then says I didn't load anything this far out. Da Flier whips out the little blue gizmo ... hey Sue five miles straight ahead. Talk about contrasts the mountains above us covered in snow the flats of the valley frozen with patches of hoar frost and a stream near the cache site with water well over 120 degrees. THANK-YOU Geomate Jr. Got to love a gizmo that stores 250,000 caches and can be refreshed as often as you like.
Guess what, no wireless nor cellular in Cedarville and many other places. Granted I am stuck with an iPhone and the lowly AT&T coverage ... Geomate Jr. shines, no it outshines in certain instances. Nooooooooooooo, I do not work for them, however, I do sometimes get to play with one of the other companies toys as a beta tester.
Hi MNM, Yes but only for updating Geo Jr. works like a charm, however, it gets acid indigestion when talking through Google Chrome. So I go through Windows Internet Explorer to do the updates,

Good to know. You have me just about convinced to get one! I like the spontaneity it gives to the game for someone with many erands to run and may have time on their hands in between appointments. Also, when traveling to new places one was not anticipating visiting. My kids would LOVE IT and I think I would too!
MNM, Geomate jr. owners report ... it is in the GPS Technology section New post this A.M has brought it up to the first page. There are a number of similar threads all have value
It and the update kit are available through Groundspeak and REI. I would suggest REI because of their outstanding return policy. You will not get it at a significant discount, however, the REI return policy is ... "Da Bomb"

Amazing...here I spent a good 3 hours researching this little doohickey to see how it was working and weather it was worth investing in and at church today someone asks me what I know about it! I was glad I had an answer for them and highly recommended it. Since coming to the church we attend now (about 8-9 months ago if that) about 10 people have shown an interest and started up this fun little game! It has been suggested that we start up a team! (Wood Street Cachers)When someone asks "Who started all of this with the people in this church?", everyone points to me and say, "She did!" At least they are smiling when this happens!
