Geowoodstock 8 will be held July 3, 2010, in Carnation, Washington, at Remlinger Farms.

Here's a chance for a mega-event icon, plus a 30 mile side-trip to one of only two remaining Project APE caches. (The other APE cache is in Brazil.)

Hmm, there is only one Geowoodstock each year. This year (yesterday) Geowoodstock 7 was in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. That's where Bendy Bunny was.

Hey All, Perhaps we might enter into some long range goal setting and planning to get a contingent headed to GW 8 next year. Multi Passenger van, loads of Geo-Friends, some tents, plenty of GPS'r units, AA batteries, strong data base, caches along a route. Hit the original site and it's twin on the way up. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Geowoodstock VIII officials tell me that Tolt MacDonald Park is the nearest camping facility to GZ. They have 22 tent sites, 16 RV sites, and two large group camping sites.

The Snoqualmie River RV Park and Campground is another place for camping near GW8. It has 92 RV sites and 32 tents sites, and reservations are being accepted now for 2010.

Today new border crossing regulations took effect, so if you plan to visit Canada before or after GW8 start thinking about getting a passport. Here are the new regulations.

We are signed up as of today, and have reservations at an RV park in Bothell (about 25 miles away) for July 1-6. Too late to get a place much closer, and we have stayed at the park in Bothell before.

Anybody else confirmed as attending?

We will be at Geo-Woodstock, and possibly the Midnight Madness event. We have some people to visit, so we probably won't make the APE cache event, and I don't know that we want to subject the kids to the insanity of the Lost and Found Celebration on Sunday. (Or navigate Seattle at that point!)

We'll be caching and visiting around Oregon and Washington for the better part of a month, so we have to make sure not to spread ourselves too thin.

The Groundspeak Headquarter's Lost and Found Celebration on July 4th is only a 15-minute walk from Gas Works Park, site of the mega firework show over Lake Union. The fireworks were almost cancelled this year due to lack of corporate funding, but the business community stepped up and raised $500,000 for the show. (Groundspeak pledged $1,000 for the Family 4th show.)

Sounds like the place to be on the 4th! usa

Sure! Shall we all private message our cell phone numbers, so we can text (or call, for text-o-phobes) our rendevouz? Or do we just want to set a time and place?

The organizers say the totem pole is at
N 47° 37.875 W 121° 53.821

Those coords are about 3,400 feet from the GW8 posted coords, but COWWS say this about that:
Quote:
The proper entrance to the farm is the posted coords on the cache page. That's the way everyone needs to come in. It'll be obvious once you get there, you can't miss the entrance to the farm. If we used the totem coords for where we'll actually be, auto-routing wouldn't give you the right directions and try to take you in a back road that isn't really available for public use.

Any thoughts on when to do a gettogether? I will probably be playing geocoin poker starting at 1. Probably because although I didn't make the initial draw of 40 players I'm number 2 on the wait list and they say they've never used less than 10 from that list.

Sounds good to me. (But I haven't worn a watch for two years. Or a tie.) laugh

I haven't worn a tie since 1970, and been without a watch most of that time as well, but the advent of cell phones means I'm rarely without a clock. My GPSer adds one more clock to the mix!

Anybody figure out how to get to the Lost & Found Celebration on July 4? I downloaded the bus schedule, but it looks like a schematic drawing for a binary clock. I'm taking my passport just in case I end up in Canada.

Oh, boy! Bubbleman* will be at the Lost & Found event; plus a scavenger hunt for a limited edition trackable.
Quote:
Kids will be delighted with a visit from the famed Bubbleman and the opportunity for a snapshot with Signal the Frog, the official mascot for Groundspeak.

The Discover Fremont Scavenger Hunt is available for everyone to practice navigational skills through the Fremont neighborhood. Lost & Found team members will be stationed at iconic locations to hand out souvenir puzzle pieces to treasure hunters as they find each site. When participants complete their puzzle, they can exchange it for a limited edition Trackable.

On last night's Geocaching podcast, Jen from Groundspeak announced that the new 2010 Lackey geocoin will be released at the Lost and Found Celebration. She also said that signing the logwall at the event is for both the Groundspeak Headquarters and the Lost and Found event. (Yes, in lieu of a logbook they will have a log wall.) Entrance to the event is at 34th and Evanston.

She also said to keep an eye out for the Troll. scratch

Anybody here remember the TV show Twin Peaks? It was one of my favorite shows, at least until it got all weird. I loved the music and I loved the waterfall.

Snoqualmie Falls is only a dozen miles from GW8:
N 47° 32.590 W 121° 50.250
And there's an earthcache there too!

Come to the Podcacher Meet & Greet on Thursday and get treated to free pizza!

And look for me at the Podcacher booth at GW8 to get a raffle ticket for prizes! (There will be a flyer in your GW registration packet.)

If you're going to the Root Beer event Wednesday night be sure and bring money. A hamburger is $13.00.

I enjoyed a nice, leisurely breakfast this morning with someone that humboldt flier knows and loves. But sweetj's name came up the most often in conversation. blahblah (Not to worry, I said very nice things about both of you.) blush

Can you guess who it was? (Or is it whom?)

After this morning I'm pretty sure I'll never get a cache published again. frown I'll have to change my name to humboldt flier just to have a chance.

Hey association with my name will cause you to be guilty by mere association.

At least one Lost Coast Cacher completed the Geocaching Challenge Course today and earned a bandana, t-shirt, trackable geoteam tag, and a big gold medal to wear at LCCF breakfasts. cool

The "as the crow flies" route was about 5.1 miles through the streets of Fremont, including some heavy-panting hills and staircases. I'm not sure what the final mileage was—I'm just glad it's over.

I think I spot one Lost Coast Cacher at the APE cache. Or is that Sasquatch?

The day before the Going APE! event someone stole the lid to the APE cache container (and the coin attached to it). Now they're having another event to replace the lid: Putting a Lid on the APE.

Following the event some may go to Twede's Cafe (aka Twin Peaks Cafe) for some cherry pie and a "damn fine cup o' coffee."
